Two groups recently announced upcoming professional development conferences to be held this summer.

Working in conjunction with Washington State University and Western Washington University, representatives from the University of Washington spearheaded the initiative to create an organization called the Northwest Coalition of Professional Staff in Higher Education, which is devoted to the advancement of Professional Staff in the Northwest. The group is hosting the first biennial conference on July 19-21 at Alder Hall of the University of Washington campus.

Registration information can be found online at www.wwu.edu/NCPS.

The CTC Association of Administrative Employees is hosting a conference from August 13-14 at the Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine.  The title is “Challenging Systemic Barriers for Student Success” and the topics will include MACRO aggressions – attracting and retaining underrepresented staff and faculty.  There will be breakout sessions on hiring and retention.  The keynote address will be given by educator, author, and filmmaker, Lee Mun Wah.

The registration fee is $290 for individuals from member colleges ($390 for non-member colleges). Registration fee includes two breakfasts, two lunches,  the awards banquet,  and Lee Mun Wah’s book and materials. To take advantage of the special resort rate of $169 per night, reservations must be made by July 30.
