Is it possible for a total stranger to take total control of important aspects of a loved one’s life like their finances and where they will live?

According to current guardianship laws, the answer is yes. On the next Northwest Now, we take a closer look at Washington’s guardianship laws.

“It’s a mixed bag,” said David Lord with Disability Rights Washington. “And that’s part of what the job of the courts should be is to look at those cases, and also to monitor the cases.”

We’ll also hear from State Representative Jim Moller who is pushing for reforms in our current state guardianship policies. We’ll also talk to KING 5’s investigative reporter Linda Byron who recently found several incidents exposing flaws with guardianship in Washington State.

Northwest Now is a weekly public affairs program which you can see every Friday Night at 7:30 p.m. right here on KBTC.
